After growing up in a small city in the Atacama desert, Felicitas Loest studied German and Spanish (with a focus on literature and cultural studies), as well as European Art History at Heidelberg University and at King’s College London. She has been working at Heidelberg University since 2017; mainly teaching at the Department for Romance Studies and coordinating projects for international academic exchange. In this context, Felicitas coordinated the application process for the Käte Hamburger Centre and assumed the role of managing director after its approval.
In addition to her work at CAPAS, Felicitas is writing a PhD Thesis on topoi of the sublime in descriptions of Latin American landscapes. For her research project, she received two scholarships in 2020: a BWS-plus research fellowship at the University of Chile, and a Fulbright Doctoral Fellowship at Yale University, which unfortunately had to be postponed because of the pandemic. Her research interests concern conceptions of identity and the subject in relation to space as landscape or territory, influenced by de- and post-colonial theory, as well as gender studies perspectives.
