In 2006, Ute von Figura received a Master’s in media and communication science at the University of Göttingen. Subsequently, she completed a training in public relation at the Robert Bosch Stiftung (charitable institution) in Stuttgart.
From 2007 to 2009, she worked in corporate communication for an energy group in Karlsruhe with the focus on internal communication. She then moved to Heidelberg to develop a new internet presence for the Interdisciplinary Center for Scientific Computing (IWR) at Heidelberg University.
In 2010, she started working for the “Communications and Marketing” department at Heidelberg University. Here, she was responsible for the implementation of the internal communication policy, the management of communication with decentralized communication officers and students; as well as the collection, evaluation, and preparation of information from the university for various publication channels.
In 2012, she assumed responsibility for corporate publishing of Heidelberg University and thus the new development and production of the university's research magazine "Ruperto Carola". In addition, she compiled central print media for the university, the faculties, and individual institutions.
After spending a year abroad, during which she completed, among other things, a 3000-kilometer long-distance-hike in New Zealand, she returned to Heidelberg in 2018 to start working for the Collaborative Research Cluster “Material Text Cultures” at Heidelberg University where she is responsible for science communication. Since 2021, she also works in science communication at the Käte Hamburger Centre for Apocalyptic and Post-Apocalyptic Studies (CAPAS).
